We’re bringing the beach to you, well not the sun and sand… but a whole lot of interesting specimens!

The fisheries education team has a new loan kit available, complete with real specimens, student resources and teacher’s instructions.

The kit includes 5 bags of dry beachcomber items, including plants and animals, such as fibreballs, coral, various bivalve and gastropod shells and even a shark egg casing!

There are also more than 15 special items for you to display to engage and inspire your class.

We also include laminated posters and field guides to support class learning. Links to the Australian curriculum include science, science understanding and science inquiry skills, together with sub-strands such as evaluating and communicating.

Students will explore and make observations using all their senses, identify and classify marine organisms and so much more.

So if you are looking for a hands-on educational experience with a focus on our Western Australian marine species, contact fish_education@dpird.wa.gov.au and put ‘Loan kit’ in the subject line.
